How we rate products
Every product on InfoNavigator gets a MetaScore — a 0–10 score computed from public ratings data. Here is exactly how it works.
The MetaScore
- Collect public ratings. We pull star ratings and review counts from major retailers, review platforms, and enthusiast communities for each product.
- Normalize. Ratings are normalized to a 0–10 scale and weighted by review volume — 10,000 reviews count more than 100.
- Adjust for recency. Recent reviews carry more weight than old ones, so a product resting on 2022 glory cannot coast.
- Publish the sources. Every MetaScore badge shows how many public sources went into it. A score from 12 sources means more than one from 3.
What the score does not include
- No sponsored inputs. Brands cannot pay to be scored, and affiliate relationships never touch the math.
- No hands-on score inflation. We do not pretend to have tested products we have not — the score is honest about being ratings-driven.
- No black box. If the methodology changes, we say so here and re-score.
Provisional scores
A score marked provisional means the product is new enough that public ratings are still thin. We publish it anyway — with the warning — because buyers of new flagships need guidance too. Provisional scores are re-computed as reviews accumulate.
Verification cadence
Prices, specs, and ratings are re-verified at least monthly. When a new flagship launches or a price moves materially, the affected vertical is re-scored within days.
